Poetic Disappointment: A Lesson Learned

Because I thought it would help my writing, I began an online poetry course a few weeks ago at a supposedly reputable education site. The advertising omitted to note the base level of instruction for the class. It felt as if high school children were the intended target audience. Even more baffling: this course and organization get promoted through colleges that subscribe to its services.

After two weeks, I decided this course constituted a detriment to my creativity, innovation, and writing. The so-called instructor didn’t even know what her assignments instructed. Her poems sucked. Her feedback was inane and not well thought out. I picked up a book by Rebecca McClanahan: Word Painting. Reading about one-half the book provided more insight into imagery, writing, and characterization than the course offered.

I recommend to anyone truly interested in creative writing to avoid this online poetry scam, and purchase McClanahan’s book. You’ll be glad you did.

Florida Winter Weather

The warm temperatures returned to Sunny South Florida, today. The current temperature is 76 degrees. How’s that for winter weather. Frankly, I don’t miss the snow, the sleet, and the freezing temperatures. I, especially, don’t miss shoveling snow. Now would be an ideal time for a trip to the beach area. February is a brutal month in the North country.

The weather has been absolutely beautiful in South Florida this winter. However, tomorrow and Monday we will experience temperatures as low as 42 degrees.

People in the North find 42 degrees in February like a summer day. Nevertheless, when the temperature drops 40 degrees in a couple of days, you feel intensely cold. Add the high humidity to that scenario, and you are freezing. Fortunately, the temperature will return to the normal 60 to 75 degrees on Tuesday.

I wish all the folks in the frozen north an early spring. Or, you can come down for a visit.

Spammers zombiestat and vampirestat

I just found out that vampirestat and zombiestat are spammers attempting to generate more traffic for their own purposes. Isn’t it disgusting that people such as this exist. From which rat infested hole do they come? Don’t they respect anyone or anything? People like this belong in jail because they are merely thieves .

Stop and Go Economy

Markets are spinning downward today, with the DJIA off about 150 points. All 10 S&P sectors are down, too. Even Wal-Mart Stores dove nearly 2%.

Does this mean the rush to buy stocks has ended?

Economic Recovery?

The media tells us that the economy is recovering. However, the average number of jobs added over the past four years is 151,000 people per month, and GDP is averaging 2.2%.
The average number of new entrants into the workforce each month is 125,000 to 150,000. GDP needs to grow at greater than 3% to create enough jobs to get us out of this malaise. In addition, the GDP growth is an illusion created by Federal Reserve policies.

The question: When will we see an economic recovery that helps the middle class family in America?
