What Makes a Great Science Fiction Writer?

Asimov was one of the great science fiction writes, and he had a plethora of other talents, too. This suggests that an interdisciplinary education combined with a curious and creative mind helps produce a great science fiction writer.

Although Asimov is famous for his science fiction books, his works are included in nine of the 10 major categories in the Dewey Decimal system. In history he wrote, The Greeks: A Great Adventure and  The Egyptians. In addition, he wrote The Intelligent Man’s Guide to Science, mysteries, such as, The Black Widower Series. Others include Asimov’s Guide to Shakespeare, Asimov’s Guide to the Bible, Lecherous Limericks, and Treasury of Humor.

Is the motivational industry all hype? Does it have any real substance?

Motivational speaker Robbins' coal walk burns more than 30 people.

Would you take a walk on burning coals to overcome your fear?
First, it's good to know the types of fear we face: rational and irrational.

Rational fears are fears about real dangers that could produce physical harm.

Irrational fears are  when we fear the unfamiliar and want to stay in our comfort zones because they are happy places. We fear uncertainty,. We fear failures. Remarkably, we even fear success.

This Robbins stunt appears to be a foolish endeavor.

Will this be a future home after eons of evolution? “Europa's rocky interior may be much more complex and possibly earthlike than people typically think, according to Steve Vance, a planetary scientist at JPL and lead author of the study.”

It’s fun to speculate.

Phillip K. Dick wrote many of the stories we view as films lately.

Paycheck
Minority Report
A Scanner Darkly
Total Recall
Adjustment Bureau
Screamers
Next
A Scanner Darkly
Blase Runner
Man in the High Castle
 Imposter

To my way of thinking, his ideas and concepts were ahead of the times in which he wrote. What an imagination! He had knowledge of [philosophy, business, physics. It's too bad that he didn't enjoy the success he deserved during his lifetime.
